Okinawa JALT Monthly Meeting June 2003
Why Carolyn Graham's Jazz Chants Work, and How You Can
Make Your Own Chants Based on Popular Songs
Andrew Meyerhoff
Date: Time: Place: |
Sunday, June 22, 2003
2:00 - 4:00 P.M.
Okinawa Christian Junior College (OCJC), South Building, Room 2-1
|
Summary:
There are
several key ingredients needed to turn a song into a good
classroom chant. Mr. Meyerhoff will not only discuss
these ingredients, but he will also have participants
practice chanting during the session.
This session should prove particularly useful for
non-native speaking teachers. Using AV equipment
while chanting provides a role model for such
teachers who may lack confidence in speaking
English naturally.
Mr. Meyerhoff's Bio:
Samuel Andrew Meyerhoff holds a BA in cultural-historic
geography from UBC (the University of British of Columbia),
as well as a one year TESOL Diploma, also, from UBC. He has
been teaching ESL and EFL for 15 years, both in Canada and Japan.
Andrew's main love in life is songwriting and lyric writing, and he
was drawn to Okinawa just over a year ago because of his love for
the sound of traditional Okinawan music.
