About Okinawa JALT:
The Okinawa chapter of the Japan Association of Language
Teaching was founded on January 25, 1980. The first meeting of the Okinawa chapter
was held at Yuuna-sô in the Yogi district of Naha, Okinawa. We are a diverse
group of language educators living here in Okinawa Prefecture sharing the common goal
of improving foreign language education. Our membership is comprised of language teachers
from all levels of education. We meet on the fourth Sunday of each month at Okinawa
Christian Junior College.

What is JALT?
"JALT is a non-profit professional organization dedicated to the
improvement of language learning and teaching in Japan, a vehicle for exchange of new ideas and
techniques, and a means of keeping abreast of new developments in a rapidly changing field."

- Affiliations: JALT is the Japan affiliate of International TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of
Other Languages), and a branch of IATEFL (International Association of Teachers of English as a
Foreign Language)
- Publications The Language Teacher (monthly), the JALT Journal (annually),
JALT Conference Proceedings (annually), and JALT Applied Materials (a monograph series)
Purpose:
"The purposes of JALT are to foster research, hold conferences, issue publications,
cooperate with related professional organizations and carry on other activities for those interested in the
improvement of language teaching and learning in Japan and contribute to the development of activities in
language teaching and learning, social education and international cooperation."
